In today’s business world, knowledge is the single most important competitive advantage for professionals. Growing organizations usually have two major expectations from their employees – firstly, the understanding of organizational business, working practices and the industry, and secondly, ability of handling changing business environment and challenges successfully.
Professionals usually gain knowledge about organizational business, domain, industry and working practices while working with the organization or industry. However it is very difficult to gain good knowledge and ability about the best practices for handling business challenges and changes only with the experience.
The difference
This is the point where average and smart professionals can be differentiated. Average professionals try to apply random practices to overcome their business challenges. Sometimes these practices work, sometimes they don’t. However, lot of time, efforts and money are wasted in this process, resulting into delayed results, extra work, demoralized team and lower profits for the organization.
Smart professionals take different approach. They first learn the internationally accepted best practices to solve their business challenges. They don’t like to reinvent the wheel. After learning, they prudently apply these best practices to their problems, resulting into quicker results, happier customers and higher profits for the organizations.
The internationally accepted best practices are relatively more accessible these days in the form of international standards and frameworks like CMMI, ITIL, COBIT, TOGAF, ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 20000, ISO 22301, Six Sigma, etc.
Dynamic and progressive organizations also have realized the value of these internationally accepted frameworks and standards. They train their team first and then apply the practices to achieve higher operational efficiency and effectiveness, improved profits and higher customer satisfaction
